About Wahaka Mezcal
At an elevation of over 5,300 feet sits the village of San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. The village is like most in rural Oaxaca – poor, with an almost entirely indigenous population. It’s a luxury here to have a refrigerator in one’s home; few own a washing machine or a car.
Alberto Morales is a fifth-generation Zapotec Mezcalero, the keeper of his family’s methods of creating fine Mezcal. His family has lived in San Dionisio Ocotepec for as long as they can remember. He proudly follows the time-honored methods his ancestors used to make Mezcal – cooking the Agave in earthen pits, crushing them with a millstone, and fermenting in open air vats.
At Wahaka, there is no industrial machinery, no modern equipment. Sr. Morales uses the tools of his father and grandfather before him – a clay still heated by a wood-fired oven. Wahaka Mezcal is certified organic by the USDA and Mayacert.
Alberto Morales and his family help support the community of San Dionisio Ocotepec through free healthcare and other opportunities which improve the quality of life for everyone.
As always, Harvest Social Club members pay only $35 and can purchase 3 seats and get a fourth free! This is a great time to invite one of your friends to an experience they’ll love.
General public $45.
